This is a free, national event celebrated locally by hundreds of families each year, and a great opportunity to connect with afterschool programs near you.
Food, drinks, games, and activities are included at no cost.

By entering NextUp’s Lights On Afterschool event, you are entering an area where photography, audio, and video recording may occur.
Your entry and presence on the event premises constitutes your consent to be photographed, filmed, and/or otherwise recorded, and to the release, publication, exhibition, or reproduction of any and all recorded media of your appearance, voice, and name for any purpose whatsoever in perpetuity in connection with NextUp, its partners, and its initiatives, including, by way of example only, use on websites, in social media, and in news and advertising materials.
If you are a parent or guardian bringing a minor to this event, your entry and the minor’s presence on the event premises constitutes your consent, on behalf of that minor, to the same photography, filming, and recording described above.
Opt-Out Option: If you or your child do not wish to be photographed, filmed, or recorded, please visit the check-in table to receive a wristband indicating this preference. We will make reasonable efforts to honor wristbands by excluding wristband-wearers from event photography and videography, though we cannot guarantee exclusion from wide shots, background footage, or incidental recordings of the event as a whole.
By entering the event premises, you waive and release any claims you may have related to the use of recorded media of you (or, for guardians, your minor) at the event, including, without limitation, any right to inspect or approve the photo, video, or audio recording, any claims for invasion of privacy, violation of the right of publicity, defamation, or copyright infringement, or for any fees for use of such recorded media. This waiver does not apply to individuals who have received and are wearing an opt-out wristband, except with respect to incidental appearances in wide or background recordings as described above.
You understand that all photography, filming, and/or recording will be done in reliance on this consent. If you do not agree to the foregoing, please do not enter the event premises without first obtaining an opt-out wristband at check-in.
NextUp RVA is a nonprofit organization helping youth discover their talents and build positive relationships. It does this by managing a strong system of accessible out-of-school time programs delivered in schools and across the city. When youth participate in quality out-of-school time programs, they learn new skills, find out what they are good at, gain confidence and are engaged learners.
