Join NextUp RVA for a fun-filled evening celebrating the importance of afterschool programs in our community. Citywide Lights On Afterschool will take place on Saturday, October 19, 2024 from 11am to 2pm at MLK Middle School and it is free to attend! Celebrate the power and impact of Richmond’s out-of-school programs while enjoying games, prizes, art contest, and info about afterschool programs near you. Join the party!

Lights On Afterschool is the only nationwide event celebrating afterschool programs and their important role in the lives of children, families and communities. The effort has become a hallmark of the afterschool movement across the country each year, drawing attention to the many ways afterschool programs provide opportunities for youth to discover new skills and explore their talents.

This year we are pleased to announce Richmond’s OST Partners: Higher Achievement, the Mayor’s Youth Academy, the Boys and Girls Club of Metro Richmond, Parks and Recreation, Girls on the Run, the YMCA and NextUp have all joined forces to host a phenomenal event for Richmond youth and families.

This year’s event will help raise awareness of out-of-school opportunities and resources offered throughout the City of Richmond, as well as shed light on the impact of afterschool programs within our community.

Elementary, Middle, and High Schoolers can also submit their artwork to the Lights On Afterschool Art Contest and enter to win a prize of $200!
