KR Scholars invites the Richmond community to celebrate Juneteenth while raising funds for students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) at its Juneteenth HBCU Scholarship Fundraiser. The event honors the legacy of Juneteenth and marks KR Scholars’ five-year anniversary as a community-focused nonprofit organization.

Funds raised will benefit the Dollars for HBCU Scholars program, which has provided over $70,000 annually in scholarships and essential resources to HBCU students. These scholarships are transformational, offering not just financial aid but also critical support that helps ensure students attend college and complete their degrees.

Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States, serving as a day of remembrance, reflection, and renewed commitment to equity. KR Scholars calls on the community to turn that commitment into action by supporting the next generation of HBCU scholars.

“Juneteenth is a powerful reminder of how far we’ve come and how far we still have to go,” said Kristen Johnson, Executive Director of KR Scholars. “This event is more than just a celebration; it’s a call to action. By supporting HBCU students, we are investing in future leaders who will shape our communities for generations.”

Guests will enjoy an all-you-can-eat buffet, lively music, and line dancing, a fun and meaningful way to celebrate freedom while giving back. KR Scholars is also seeking event sponsors committed to educational equity and long-term impact.
