Juneteenth Cultural Heritage and Mask Making Workshop at Downtown Richmond YMCA
Celebrate Juneteenth at the Downtown YMCA with a meaningful youth workshop focused on African history, identity, and cultural pride. Participants will learn about Africa as the birthplace of humanity and explore the accomplishments of early African civilizations, while also discussing the importance of reclaiming heritage and understanding the impact of cultural loss during slavery.
After the discussion, teens will create their own African‑inspired masks to express something personal about their identity, values, or cultural pride. The session ends with a youth gallery walk where participants can appreciate one another’s artwork and reflect on what the experience meant to them. This hands‑on program supports confidence, creativity, and community connection—honoring the spirit of Juneteenth through learning and art.
